It suggests for most adults to walk for 10,000 steps a day this is the equivalent of about 5 miles. If counting results by miles or distance is not your thing, you can measure your efforts in quantities of time instead. "As a walker, you should walk for at least 30 minutes per day, or a total of 150 minutes per week," says Austin "Ozzie" Gontang, Ph.D. a licensed psychotherapist and the director of the San Diego Marathon Clinic. "The distance you walk during that time will depend  on factors such as your walking speed and terrain," he says.
